The domestic water treatment chemicals market in China is valued at approximately RMB 7 Bn in revenues as of year-end 2009, according to a recently published report by GCiS China Strategic Research. The market study, which focuses on domestic sales of scale dispersants, inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, biocides, coagulants, cleaning agents, pre-film formers and other chemicals, was conducted over the first half of 2011.

The market grew by an average of 16% in 2010 and has witnessed almost double GDP growth in recent years. A mix of growing industrial output, water scarcity and stricter regulatory enforcement has contributed to these growth rates. Almost all major suppliers in the market expect these trends to continue.

The customer base in this industry primarily consists of refineries in the petrochemicals sector, steel plants and thermal power plants. All of these users require their water to be treated to a certain standard and their scale and growth constitutes a major aspect of demand.
